‘Look for the Lighthouse’
Workplace well-being, the business case.
In October 2017 ‘Thriving at work The Stevenson / Farmer review of mental health and employers’ was published it found that poor mental health and stress is estimated to cost employers between £33 billion and £42 billion per year (with over half of the cost coming from presenteeism – when individuals are less productive due to poor mental health in work) with additional costs from sickness absence and staff turnover.
Increases in working hours and a workforce that has the ability to be contactable 24/7 can be detrimental to the mental well-being of your staff. One in six of us will experience a mental health problem in any given week and work-related stress costs Britain 10.4 million working days per year.
Working in isolation.
The impact of lone working is an issue which is often overlooked in the workplace as poor mental wellbeing is not something that can always be seen or expressed. Loneliness is something often associated with the elderly but the impact of loneliness can be just as dramatic to the workforce.
